On behalf of our students, staff and Knott County Board of Education, welcome to our district website. We hope you use the website to acquire information about the schools and learn more about our commitment to educating the students in a safe, fun, strong instructional environment.
I would like to thank each and every parent that sends their children to the Knott County Schools. It is truly an honor for our highly-trained, professional staff that is dedicated to helping your children experience personal growth academically, socially and emotionally. We value the ideas and support of our parents. Your participation as part of our School Improvement Leadership Teams, Parent-Teacher Student Organizations and Parent Volunteer Programs are a very important part of our schools and community.
Our district places a great deal of emphasis on ensuring all students graduate with the skills they need to be college and career ready. We have been fortunate to be a part of Kentucky Valley Education Cooperative’s Race To The Top Grant. This has allowed our district to provide a 1:1 initiative with iPads for all eighth and ninth grade students in the district. Our staff plans to use the technology in the classrooms to improve the instruction we provide for students.
Our goals in the Comprehensive District Improvement Plan for the 2015-2016 school year include:
We will increase our graduation rate from 88.8% to 90%.
We will increase the percentage of students that are college and career ready from 58.2% to 64.5%
We plan to increase Reading and Math K-Prep Scores:
Elementary Students from 44.1 to 72.6, Middle School Students from 47.3 to 71.9, and
Secondary achievement scores will increase from 49.4 to 73.1.
As Superintendent of the Knott County School District, I believe the more that schools and families are joined as partners to educate our children, the greater the chances are for success. Together we can help enhance the quality of our children’s lives and we can make a difference. We plan on having a great year.
